Created and staffed by local schoolteachers, Menehune Surf provides surfing fun for kids of all ages and surfing ability. “It’s important to have professional adults taking care of your kids,” says owner, and La Jolla resident Angela Harrell. “Safety and fun are the required pre-requisites for any successful
camp program. We’ve ensured this by limiting our camp enrollment to eight students or less and maintaining a 1 to 4 instructor-student ratio,” says Harrell. “The kids still get the social interaction of a camp atmosphere and the added bonus of more hands-on attention.” Harrell explains that from day one their
instructors strive to be strong role models and are on a first name basis with each camper. “That’s important because it’s their job to help kids replace fear with fascination while providing guidance so that they can just enjoy their surfing adventures,” he adds. Menehune Surf has expanded their surf curriculum, and now offer
surf lessons and
clinics to adults, as well as children. “Surfing is such a healthy, satisfying activity, that parents can’t help but want to get out there and try it for themselves,” explains Harrell. Menehune Surf has evolved from offering traditional summertime surf camp programs, to a year-round surf school offering a diverse array of surf instruction from surf lessons for first time surfers, to professional surf clinics for advanced surfers.
