Overnight Surf Camp

Ages 12-17

"Catch a wave and you're sitting on top of the world," and there's no better "world" than right here in San Diego at La Jolla Shores.  Students near and far, who wish to learn the art, discipline, and sport of surfing can do so in our surf intensive overnight surf camp.  Students will learn lifelong surf skills, conditioning, balance training, stretch and yoga techniques, as well as the interpretive seminars of our day camp program.  In addition to surfing every day, we will also infuse kayaking, snorkeling, and tidepool exploration into the program in order to give our overnight campers a variety of ocean related activities to take part in, and further enhance their enjoyment of an "all-around" summertime beach experience. 

Our overnight surf camp is co-sponsored by surf industry powerhouse Billabong.  Billabong will provide all overnight campers the chance to meet surfers on the Billabong team, gain valuable insight into the professional world of surfing, as well as share in the stoke of such complimentary Billabong items as Hats, T-shirts, Rashguards, DVD's, posters, and more; helping to create a truly unforgetable experience.  This fun filled camp is available to students of all levels of surfing ability, and will be held at U.C.S.D..  All overnight campers will be chaperoned on the U.C.S.D. campus at all times, ensuring a fun, safe, productive environment for all participants. 

Transportation from the San Diego airport to the U.C.S.D. campus will be provided by Menehune Surf for all out of town campers.  There is a fee associated with this type of service.  For all San Diego residents attending the overnight camp, a Menehune Surf Camp Director will meet all campers on the U.C.S.D. campus on Sunday at 3:00pm for camp orientation and check-in.

The interpretive program for the overnight surf camp will include:

• surf technique and balance exercises
• stretch and yoga techniques
• conditioning and diet for athletes
• water safety (including riptide identification and reaction, natural and man-made hazards)
• surfing etiquette
• wave and tidal formation
• surf history
• surfboard construction, evolution, and repair
• marine life, and natural history
• conservation and coastal preservation

As always, safe, quality surf instruction is our top priority.  Each camp is led by our most experienced instructors and limited to eighteen participants per week, with a 1:4 instructor to student ratio maintained at all times.  All instructors are FIRST AID and CPR certified, have experience working with children, and complete an extensive training program before the season begins.

Price includes the use of a soft foam surfboard, wetsuit, snorkel, mask, kayak, lifejacket, paddle, room and board.

Camp Deposit and Final Payment Information                                                
Deposits are required to secure enrollment in any of our camps. Until we receive your deposit, the best we can do is waitlist you for the camp which you desire.  We require a $350.00 deposit for each overnight surf camp enrollment.  All deposits are non-refundable. Final payment is due two weeks before the first day of your camp. No refunds will be given for cancellations made less than two weeks from the start of your camp.
