Menehune Surf Team

Be a part of our year-round surf team!

The focus of Menehune Surf team is to enable intermediate, and advanced surfers to progress in all aspects of their surfing.  Our program is dedicated to safety and structured to provide a fun and enriching setting for young wave riders to build the confidence necessary to develop into the surfer they want to become.

The primary objective of our curriculum is to support, challenge, and inspire both the "free surfer" (non-competitive) and the competitive surfer.  With an instructor to student ratio never exceeding 1:4, we individualize each team rider's training program while providing the positives of group learning.  We offer three distinct programs, one for advanced beginners, one for intermediate surfers, and one for advanced surfers.  Coaches conduct a skill assessment to develop a personalized training program for the rider as well as to place each rider with a training group appropriate to the rider's skill level.  We understand that there are strong social ties rooted in surfing, thus we consider request for group placement.

What distinguishes Advanced Beginners, Intermediate, and Advanced Surfers?

Advanced Beginner - Completion of surf camp or private lessons.  Surfer wants to be part of a team and is looking to progress their surfing ability.

Intermediate - Surfer has a clean pop-up, can stand and surf down the face of the wave, and perform basic turns, but has difficulty generating rail to rail speed.  This program is designed for surfers who are beyond the beginning surf camp level and desire to advance their wave riding skills.

Advanced - Solid, well-rounded surfer by creating rail to rail speed, recognizing the correct times to perform specific maneuvers and successfully complete and connect maneuvers most of the time.  This program is designed for the surfer looking to refine technique, develop style, overcome key problem areas, and learn to successfully complete more specific advanced maneuvers, such as cutbacks, roundhouses, aerials, floaters, barrel riding, nose riders, helicopters, drop-knee turns, switch, and the list goes on.
